Member Profile

Wayne and Jeanne Quinton of Seattle, Washington, are dedicated fans of BYU Television. Even in their vacation home in the mountains of Idaho, they were determined to receive BYU Television and worked with local technicians until they were able to achieve that goal. They often study in the mornings with the scripture roundtables, and Jeanne does the new Total Body Workout. Wayne and Jeanne scarcely watch programming on any other stations, except the news and BYU sports.

Wayne was raised in Rigby, Idaho. Seven days after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, he reported to work for the Boeing Aircraft Company in Seattle. At age 21 he was put in charge of preliminary tool planning for the B-29's bomb bay. From 1950 to 1961, Wayne was head of the Biomedical Engineering Department at the University of Washington, where he pioneered and built 44 medical devices, including the treadmill for exercise stress testing of cardiac patients, open-heart equipment to treat cardiovascular problems, gastrointestinal biopsy devices, shunts, oxygenators, catheters and equipment to treat chronic kidney failure. In 1961, Wayne founded Quinton Instrument Company and sold it 30 years later. By then, it had achieved a worldwide presence. Last year, the University of Washington honored him with the title "Father of Biomedical Engineering." Wayne has run 19 marathons and enjoys boating and building things.

Jeanne was raised in Wyoming and Salt Lake City, Utah. She earned a master's degree in Early Childhood Education and has held "Cousins Camp" each summer for the last 17 years for their grandchildren. She enjoys music, interior design and homemaking. Jeanne has run 9 marathons. One of her great joys was teaching early-morning seminary for 12 years. Jeanne thrives on organizing family events and fundraising for worthy causes. Last year, she and Wayne became very interested in organizing political events.

Wayne and Jeanne have served on the Presidents' Leadership Council since Rex Lee was at BYU's helm. (It was the "Lighting the Way Campaign" at that time.)
