In the past few years, as production pressures on BYU Broadcasting have steadily mounted with the expansion from two to eight television channels, from one to five radio channels and their associated web sites, the need for a transparent process for both strategic and tactical decision making in the areas of content development, acquisition, production, and scheduling has become evident.

 Application guidelines are made available on the BYU Broadcasting website.
Entry point for all applications. Projects are assigned a submission number and logged in a submission database. Applicant receives preliminary notification acknowledging receipt of application. Applications are assembled for review meetings. It is important to note that each review panel involves different criteria.
Content Office staff review applications for completeness and eligibility and may contact an applicant for clarification and additional information. Application materials are compiled for future content review meetings.
The 1st review panel meets monthly. Panel members include: BYU Broadcasting's Director of Content; Station Managers (KBYU, BYU TV, and BYU TV International); managers of Production, Marketing, Web, Programming, and the Radio Group. Applicants whose proposals have not been approved at this level will be notified.
The 2nd review panel meets monthly. Panel members include the BYUB Executive Management Team. Projects that are approved will continue to a series of administrative reviews. Applicants whose proposals have not been approved will be notified.
All remaining projects will then be subject to review and approval from the following BYU administrative line of authority: a. The Dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communications. b. The BYU Academic Vice President’s Council c. The BYU President’s Council. Projects that are approved will receive notification. Applicants whose proposals have not been approved will be notified. Some projects may be subject to additional review.
Submitters later receive an official letter of notification information about legal and reporting requirements.

  1. Are based on the Mission of Brigham Young University, the Aims of a BYU Education and the values and standards of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
  2. Are consistent with the mission and strategic goals of BYU Broadcasting.
  3. Are transparent to our stakeholders.
  4. Balance the academic mission of the university with the interests of alumni and Church members, who comprise our primary audience.
  5. Are made after weighing budgetary and resource management constraints against anticipated outcomes.
